SHOOT ME TO THE STARS…..ON MY WEDDING DAY

Your wedding day will pass like a flash and after all the months of planning and preparing, it is important to choose a photographer who will capture those special moments that will last a lifetime. There is no going back and no second chances with wedding photography and videography, so shopping around to find the right ones are a MUST.

CHOOSING A PHOTOGRAPHER
You will want to remember every moment whether in black & white, living colour or sepia and your choice of photographer /videographer is such an important one. After all, your wedding photos and footage is the only tangible reminder of every moment of your day and as such, become even more precious as the years go by.

Organise to have a consultation with your photographer/ videographer – to view their portfolio and to establish a rapport and discuss your ideas, budget and requirements.

It’s important that you choose someone whose images and style you like and someone that you feel comfortable with on the day.

Wedding photography and film has become a lot more relaxed these days and not so many of the formal posed shots are taken.

This style is known as reportage and it aims to capture the candid moments and personalities of everyone involved. Whether you want photos that emulate the style of a fashion shoot, something unique and artistically different or something natural and carefree, there is a photographer/ videographer out there to match your vision. To ensure that you’re chosen supplier shares your same vision it’s a good idea to show the photographer the kind of shots you like and also those that you are not fond of. That way they will have a clear understanding of your requirements on the day and will capture every moment in the way you would like.

Wedding packages do vary between photographers so ask how many hours they work, how many photos they will take and whether or not you get to keep all the proofs and what cost for reprints.

The album is one of the largest expenses so determine early whether you want it in digital DVD or book format. A digital album will allow you to share these images however an album will allow you to include details of the wedding, and include invitations, place cards and other special components that make your day unique and tell the story in full.

Ideally you should book your photographer/videographer in early, approximately 12 months in advance, and confirm that they will be the photographer on the day. It is a good idea to provide a list of the shots that you would like taken during the day – getting ready, ceremony, family groups, special friends, reception, etc….

It is also a good idea to have a wet weather contingency plan in place – just in case.

It is very likely that your photographer will have some fantastic places for bridal photos etc … inner city building, historical alleys, parks and gardens, etc… we’ve attached a list from our favourite photographers.

It is a good idea for the bride and her friends to take a pair of flat ballet shoes or thongs for the walks between locations and don’t forget to stop and have a drink  ( of water ! ) and something to eat along the way. A spray bottle with a facial mist is a good idea if you in the sun and dont forget the sunscreen when you re-touch your make-up.

CHOOSING A VIDEOGRAPHER
Your wedding day will be one of the happiest days of your life, but it will also be one of your busiest. Our brides and grooms often say how fast their wedding day goes – from getting ready in the morning to participating in the ceremony, greeting friends and family, posing for photos, eating, drinking and dancing at the reception, speeches, bridal waltz, cutting of the cake and being whisked away at the end of long day and night to enjoy your first night together as husband and wife.

When you are so busy and overwhelmed with emotion, it is difficult to absorb everything that happens in the day which is exactly the reason that many couples choose to hire a videographer.

It provides an excellent way to preserve your special day and allows you to recapture every moment in the future.

Videographers are trained to be discreet, blend into the background and capture every important aspect of your day without interrupting or disturbing the flow of your event in any way. Once again if you choose to engage a videographer, you should ask to see examples of their work and discuss their work and discuss how you want them to be involved in your day. For couples that are getting married in a church you may need to discuss with your minister.

If you have hired a videographer for your reception, you might ask them to interview your guests. A wedding is a fantastic time for your family and friends to share memories of you as a couple and wish you warm wishes for the future.

The most important thing to do is remember to smile, relax and enjoy every minute and all the magical moments that will become everlasting memories.

Three photographers that know our venues and the surrounding photo locations for Cocklebay and The Rocks intimately and we love to work with are John Laham from Expressions , Stuart leale , and the team from Inlighten as well as Louis from I Do video.
